After trying to pull my little sickle mower with the big 4630 I quickly realized I needed a smaller tractor sooner than expected. I had planned on waiting till the fall since I needed one to run an auger with this fall I just decided to bite the bullet and get one. I have spent too much time at auctions this year only to be disappointed so I just decided to forge a relationship with the local dealer. The two John Deere dealers I visisted didn't seem to interested in my business so I did something I never thought I would do and went to check out some other brands.

First impressions were not good because as soon as I got it home I realized the PTO clutch was out. Though it took a couple weeks the dealer I bought it from the local Agco dealer, (Kuhn's Equipment in Taylorville). It looked a little touchy for a while but they really came through and did a major repair for no charge to me!

The Massey Ferguson 255 is a 1982 model. It has a 4 cylinder Perkins Diesel engine, 2 hydraulic remotes, and runs like a champ. It shows some wear and tear as would any tractor that spent 20 years on a dairy farm but I think it is going to turn out to be a good little tractor for me. I'm sure it will get plenty of use mowing, augering, and pulling some wagons around. I did about 40 hours of very hard mowing with it that first fall and it ran great! In the winter I found it will start when none of my other equipment will.

You can't really tell in the 1st pictures but the paint was pretty faded, decals peeling, and all tires were shot. Having decided to keep it this winter we added a rollbar and new set of tires and paint and since I mow with this tractor for safety a rollbar. I hope this little tractor will be a good one for me for a lot of years.
